Electronic music and me/August Podcast.

Recently, I have been thinking about this: I have compose and wrote music  for different kind of media, toured with an Indie Rock band in France, DJing House music across Europe and been seriously inspired by west african music when I was travelling there. And despite my open musical mind and my of exploring more music, I am still coming back to electronic music. I do not mean mean club music or DJ friendly tune. I really mean electronic music. From Kraftwerk to Air passing by Board Of Canada and Telepopmusik, I can not deniedthat  these bands and artist do touch my imagination and my feelings.

While Indie Rock musicians and pop artist look to create the new best sells on the charts and look backward searching in the past what it has already be done, electronic musician tend to look forward and be innovative. How can I not be seduce by the flavour of the track “Breath” From Telepomusik??? Yes of course the snobs of the music productions will tell me how easy is this track… But who care? Not me.

What I do really like in the electronic music format it is the DIY feel I get about it. Exploring, producing, creating something personal and still understandable by other. But what fascinated me the most is it when a perfect track is put on. How can it be possible. Recently, I found myself fascinated by the remixof “In this shirt” (The Irrepressibles) made by Royksopp. These guys are genius, perfect journey from the original track to their sound. An other master piece for my collection.

Then, I am really feeling as an alien when I spoke with other producers about music and idea. And yes I am an artist before to be a musician, I am sure If I had the opportunity to learn to draw I will be a designer not a musician. Well it is happen that I am better do to music than to draw a landscape so be it. So why so much questions? Well I guess, since I am in the UK I have the feeling that I need to be categorise and be part of a music shelves. Today, I realise that I am part of a music shelves, just that my shleve is slightly different than what pop music standart is about.

La video du jour…

I have just received this video from my friend Rodolphe. Its been recorded when I was performing few months ago and to my surprise (as you can see on my face), Martin Wright (Fierce Angels), who I consider him as my mentor,  came do the decks and performed with me. It is a short but still a good souvenir and such a good vibe!
